520 | $a: Gain a firm foundation for planning and controlling successful natural water remediation projects. Engineers in general and environmental engineers in particular historically have focused on the technical aspects of natural water remediation for specific public and private projects. Natural Water Remediation considers topics such as metal ion solubility controls, pH, carbonate equilibria, adsorption reactions, redox reactions and the kinetics of oxygenation reactions which occur in natural water environments. Natural Water Remediation starts with the fundamentals of acid-base and redox chemistry to provide a better understanding of the natural system, with an eye to assessing the impact of outside environmental influences including the thermodynamics of aqueous systems and chemical reactions. These fundamentals are followed by topics such as the relationships among environmental factors and natural water (including biochemical factors, hydrologic cycles and sources of solutes in the atmosphere). Chemical thermodynamic models, as applied to natural water, are then discussed in some detail. This is quickly followed by self-contained applications concerning composition, quality measurement and analysis for river, lake, reservoir and groundwater sampling. |
